New beginnings, again

We are on the cusp of the season of Lent, the time of renewal and preparation for Easter. Lent always feels like a fresh start, yet another one in the church year - we start a new year with Advent, we observe the January 1 New Year, and we restart again at Lent. I'm feeling that especially this year as I prepare for our season here at church, planning a focus on spiritual disciplines for our community observance. And as I pull the materials together to launch our new vestry, who begin their work together this month with a meeting and a day-long retreat. And as we sign the countless documents and assemble the funds to buy a home, our first time making such a move. New things are happening, and they take a lot of work!

But on the other side of all the planning and preparation, there are new possibilities. We will finally get settled in our own home in San Diego. Our vestry will start afresh as they dream and strategize together for this congregation. And all of us will have the space of Lent's 40 days to stretch out and relish our walk with God. I hope you will take the season as just that: a chance to simplify and focus on what matters. New starts can open doors in our hearts we forgot were there. I'm praying for that for each and every one of you this year.
